State Rep. Mark Matthiesen to Serve as Vice Chair of
Newly-Created Special Committee on Government Administration

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Representative Mark Matthiesen will help lead the efforts of a newly-formed House committee charged with taking on some of the state’s most pressing healthcare issues. Matthiesen was named this week by House Speaker Dean Plocher to serve as the vice-chair of the Special Committee on Government Administration.

Plocher formed the new committee this week and immediately referred several important healthcare bills to the group. In the coming weeks the members of the committee will review legislation that would repeal Missouri’s Certificate of Need law, as well as bills dealing with hospital price transparency and advisory bodies for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The committee will also consider Matthiesen’s HB 1012 to require hospitals to maintain adequate nurse staffing levels to ensure quality care.

Matthiesen will help lead the committee along with state Rep. Dale Wright, who was appointed by Speaker Plocher to serve as chairman. As vice chair, Matthiesen will help guide the committee’s work in coordination with the chairman. Matthiesen will preside over committee hearings in Wright’s absence.

I want to thank Speaker Plocher for giving me the opportunity to work on issues I know are important to my district and to our state as a whole,” ,said Matthiesen, R-O’Fallon.
I am eager to get to work with my colleagues and Rep. Wright. I know we can work together to help craft policy that will be beneficial for Missourians who want and deserve quality healthcare.

In addition to his duties as vice-chair of the Special Committee on Government Administration, Matthiesen serves as vice-chair of the Special Committee on Tourism. He is also a member of the House General Laws Committee, the House Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing, and the Subcommittee on Appropriations-General Administration.
